Third Learning Journal
This chapter spoke to me mainly in the business aspect of how social media can be helpful. Social Media can be an excellent way to advertise and market in today's society as it is the easiest way to reach more people. This is good for advertising and now with the marketing and data analytics many social media sites have; it makes it much easier to provide valuable statistics on bettering your marketing campaigns. you can get an average age, sex, location, and more on your results and this can show what demographic your products or services reach the most. This has convinced me to utilize social media more in creating advertising campaigns for my business "Suncoast Yacht Management" in which I use Facebook and Instagram for marketing and information. Social media can also be seen as free marketing because you can post and it can have a lingering effect on those who may find it later on without your interaction. This proves to be very valuable, however, I still would not use social media for personal reasons as I do not have time for it and the effect on personal well-being can be negative. The ethics for social media are still present in the professional world and actually might even be more straight. in a professional setting, social media runs a thin line as to what is accepted and what is not. Social media is primarily used for nonprofessional interaction; so to input your business data and marketing, you have to cater to your audience in a professional but also a fun way to provoke excitement. I have primarily used Facebook for advertising because the platform is more used for marketing and ads in my opinion. This has proved useful already and it has drawn a good amount of attention in our local area. I would like to post more on Instagram to cover up our profile with some more pictures to show the work we do and let that market for itself as well. Pictures are great at gaining attention and can really draw the audience's attention. Im excited to learn more about social media in a business setting.
I agree social media has more benefit to professional growth i.e. growing your own professional brand or utilizing it for business purposes, especially advertisement. I myself do not use social media too much for personal use. However, you can be smart about your social media use and use it to your advantage. LinkedIn is a great example of this
ReplyDeleteHi Tate,
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your perspective on the commercialization of data. I think some great examples of what you are referencing is brand TikTok pages. Many brands such as Duolingo and Scrub Daddy are using TikTok as a way to market their products. If a person laughs at their videos, they form a more personal, positive connection to the brand. I feel that social media is a great way for brands to build up a customer base and secure customer loyalty. As you mentioned, social media is seen mostly for "nonprofessional interaction," but brands have accommodated to this and have gained huge profits as a result. Do you think that all business will be following suit? Or will they remain professional?
Hey Tate,
ReplyDeleteI like how you included the fact that growing a brand is about getting your content out as much as possible, explaining why apps and companies utilize tactics to cater to the users searches. In the professional sector, social media ethics are still prevalent and may even be more straightforward.
Tate, I agree with your statement "Pictures are great at gaining attention and can really draw the audience's attention." Theres this saying about social media and marketing that goes, Everything is content. People are so intrigued by the little details we think are tedious or uninteresting.
