My Thoughts on Social Media: LJ1

Social media can be an incredibly dense platform used mostly for entertainment and social purposes hence the name. My, do's of social media strictly stick with the intention of using it for connection and business purposes; ex. marketing. Social media can also be a huge rabbit hole that when traversed for the wrong uses can lead to depression, loss of motivation, and an accustomed nature to instant gratification. This is not the outcome intended for the use of social media which is why it is important to limit your time and use it for a purpose that proves beneficial to you. When I first had social media, it was more of a new software in which people used to take pictures and see what others are up to. Social media has now become much more complex and can be used for a myriad of purposes. I started with Instagram and Snapchat mostly with which I do not have any more as I did not use them anymore and liked the feeling of detaching from the internet as it can be hard to do so nowadays. If I could go back and change what I know about social media I would probably use it less in a way of trying to get more followers or a higher snap score and more towards the use of connecting with others and learning new things.

Social media and self-expression are directly tied together in a way of using social media to self-express yourself. This is mostly what social media is; a way of expressing yourself and sometimes your opinion towards matters of which you value. Selfies are another flashback to the original days of social media, selfies have not been as popular as they once were as now pictures are either taken by another. Selfies seem to be more of a private way of sending pictures now which might be done through the use of Snapchat. Online image reminds me of searching for image son things in school for a presentation. The rules and criteria for posting are more of a self-morality in which you can ask yourself a list of questions before you post. For example, is this post offensive to others? Comparing yourself to others is the dangerous risk you take when you get engulfed in social media, there are pictures of others everywhere and there is always going to be a person who is doing something that spikes jealousy. This is a reason to tread lightly when using social media and be sure to stay true to yourself. Quitting social media is in fact what I have done and I enjoy the time I saved through that in which I fill with reading, exercising, or talking to others in person.
